Daniel was born and lived his early life on a small farm in Missouri. He grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina whose main attraction is the beautiful beaches, where he spent many warm days learning to fish, surf, drive a boat, and eat hushpuppies by the dozen.
After moving to Denver as a teenager, he started a part time job at a pizza place, which subsequently led to a position at a local country club. This position taught Daniel many front of the house life skills including proper service, how to pour a drink, and genuine hospitality. It was at the country club that Daniel fell in love with the art and science of wine, leading to his decision to study for and receive a level 2 sommelier certification.
Daniel moved to New York City in 2010 and began work at a major Italian specialty retailer, Eataly. This was a playground for a young sommelier, having access to 10,000 different Italian wines, creative control for 5 restaurants’ wine lists, plus a high end culinary classroom, packed with celebrity chefs and big name wine makers.
In 2016, Daniel moved back to Colorado and worked a handful of seasons at the esteemed Sweet Basil in Vail, where he met his wife, Virginia.
Back in Denver, Daniel is thrilled to bring his knowledge and passion to lead the teams at Coperta. Let the good times roll!
